Buying a coffee maker from Revain is difficult. There are so many options out there and each one has rave reviews followed by devastating ones. I searched for weeks before finally deciding on the Krups EC140. What attracted me to it? It had a front-facing water-level window, an included reusable filter, and best of all, the ability to dual-set the auto-brew. A bonus was the programmable heat and time keep warm feature. I love the reusable filter and haven't noticed any build up at the bottom of the pot resulting from using the reusable filter that other reviewers have noticed. It could be the ground coffee I use. The filter is very heavy compared to the thin filter that came with my old coffee maker. The programmable features didn't disappoint. They are very easy to install. Turning a knob is much better than pushing buttons a hundred times to set the correct time. What am I worried about? I wonder if it's too big and if the lid of the carafe is removable. Approximate size (see photo). But I am disappointed that the decanter lid does not come off easily. What I mean is that you can take it off, but it will take a bit of effort. It should not be taken off every day and must be pryed off with a butter knife. What do I want to know? Well, except that the lid of the carafe is not removable. This thing beeps. A lot of. Beep when setting, beep when cancel setting, beep when brewing is complete. And when it's in keep warm mode, the display shows a countdown of the time left to keep warm, no clock. Both of these bothered me initially, but it turns out it doesn't matter much in real life. how about coffee Damn great! Delicious! Temperature just right! To be honest I found it doesn't matter which coffee maker you use, coffee is coffee. We drink black coffee, so I figured a little bit of bitterness was just a fact of life. I was wrong! The coffee from this machine is very tasty, not a hint of bitterness even on the bold setting. The rating is not fancy, what more can I say? Like every other coffee maker I've ever used, a drip falls on the burner when a cup is snuck up. The difference with my old kettle is that Krups only drips one drop while my old one drips about seven drops. At the same time, I didn't have any drops from the carafe when pouring. Not a single one when filling the tank, not even when pouring a cup of coffee. Unlike my old car, when filling the reservoir I don't have to keep a towel on the counter to catch the flow of water from the carafe. Result? This is a great machine with great features at a great price and I am very happy with my purchase. Definitely recommend.
