It's amazing how all the detail and some of the 35mm slides and negatives are captured by this 22 megapixel scanner! The default scanner resolution is set to a lower resolution of 14 megapixels. So if you want a maximum of 22, you'll have to manually set the resolution to 22 every time you turn on the scanner before you start scanning, which is a minor inconvenience. I suspect Magnasonic thought the average consumer would prefer lower resolution scans to save space on a memory card or hard drive. The rendering quality of the slides was better than the negatives, particularly at the black levels, but that's because the black levels on my negatives from 30 years old and earlier have disappeared, while the slides still have images that look pretty good. Don't worry: if you have Adobe Photoshop or a similar image editor, you can restore most of the black level and color quality, and paint over dust and scratches if you're really ambitious. The scanner has rudimentary controls for color balance and image brightness correction built in in fairly large increments. So, at the scanner, it's best to get the hang of it, and then get ready to make advanced image adjustments in Photoshop or another image editing program to get images that are as great as you remember them. I prefer to scan images from the dark side a bit and then lighten them up in Photoshop rather than scanning images that are too bright. Watch these moments! As soon as they disappeared, glowing white, they were gone! I've been trying to scan Super 8 film stock with this scanner and at a much lower 6 megapixel resolution with horrible graininess it's practically useless to scan such a small film. With larger film up to 135mm the images will be amazing as long as your film is in good condition! I saved my images to an SD card and then plugged that SD card into a USB slot on my computer via an SD card reader and it was great - the computer just recognized the scanned images as it would afterwards of everyone any other digital device that you can simply download onto your computer's hard drive.
