I bought a new graphics card for my PC. Thought it comes with displayport output. I was wrong. Only HDMI and DVI. I ordered an HDMI to DP adapter hoping that I could use it to get Nvidia g-sync working on my monitor (it only works over a DP connection). While fumbling to get it to work, I set the refresh rate too high and my display went completely blank. It was not possible to restore the original resolution because nothing could be seen on the monitor. I almost lost my mind. It was around 10pm and I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep until I fixed it. Took a photo in the dark and called Startech support 24/7. I expected the answering machine to ask me to leave a number to call back. nope I'm a real live person replied. He knew immediately it was wrong. I'm a bit of a layman when it comes to computer games. He took a lot of time to explain how the various display ports work. He then told me straight out that the adapter I bought wouldn't work to enable G-Sync no matter what. He had no problem convincing me to return the item as I couldn't use it. He then told me what I need to do to update my graphics card to get the desired result. As a noob, he could have told me anything and I would have believed him. Instead, he's been honest and willing to help, even if it's not in his best interest. Turns out I'll leave the adapter. I can use it to connect my work laptop to a monitor via the DP port while my PC is connected to the monitor via HDMI. I just switch between inputs. In the future I will buy all my cables/connectors from Startech. You have a customer for life.
