More environmentally friendly than plastic containers, yes. Sealed - yes. Easy to wash - yes. Glass because I think glass is better for the environment than plastic. The lid is plastic with a rubber seal to keep it from leaking (which is true). It's great for the microwave because it's glass. Where plastic can warp or buckle, this bowl simply retains its original fantastic shape. I love it. Whenever I get something I like, I end up being a free recruiter for whatever because I tell all my family and friends about the amazing job I got.
