Definitely soft which is a big problem for my baby. But it's sewn against the pile. Pile: Certain fabrics are designed to lie in a specific direction. Stroking them one way makes them smooth, stroking them the other way makes them rough. Think fur, suede, velvet. The one I received was made to be smooth going up (ankle to waist, waist to shoulder, wrist to shoulder) and going down (shoulder to wrist). was rough. It's "against gravity". just NOT the way you sew pile fabrics.
