My wife didn't even know our new 2013 Ford Edge had puddle lights, aka safety lights, until I replaced them with them. They are much lighter. However, I have noticed that Ford uses the same light on many vehicles and have newer LEDs. I would consider this option for two reasons. The connectors on it are unprotected and can touch, they do not fade smoothly, they knock a little. I've attached an image with instructions on how I handled the terminals. I used heat shrink tubing over them. I think the LEDs should be enough and if I need to replace them I can cut the tube. Make sure you check the operation before shrinking the tubing as it can be reversed.
