I have several types of needles. My CHIAOGOO are preferred. My HiyaHiya is second. I bought these because I heard wood or bamboo are great for certain projects. I personally agree with this statement. I am self-taught and use traditional straight aluminum needles. I've since switched to around (I ABSOLUTELY LOVE). Universally applicable. Now the benefits of these special needles depend on the type of yarn (these cables are a bit tight and sticky). Practicing on these needles is guaranteed to get your knitting style up and running faster for aluminum and metal needles. Resistance helps build speed (if you can knit it fast, imagine how much faster you can knit something without restraint). Which as they say, I think I put the cons in the pros. Either way, it never hurts to have a variety of needles in your arsenal.
