I needed something to hold my son's iPad Pro in a large otter case for our annual trips from Michigan to Florida. The phone/iPad car mount is one of those industries that seems to be made by 3 companies in China that make the always cheapest option that locks and brakes the first time you turn on the turn signal. Fortunately, that's not the case in this case. Almost all components, apart from the iPad mounts, are made of metal (aluminum). Mounting brackets, screws, brackets, balls, bushings. The first pleasant surprise is that the rotating balls/bushings are grooved so they lock when tightened. The second surprise is that there are real metal nuts built into the wing nuts. So when you tighten the levers, you're not removing the cheap plastic. The last plus is that the iPad holder has 3 different L parts to fit your device. There's a spring-loaded mechanism on one side, so you squeeze your device and it holds it damn well. I was hesitant to spend $55 on a holder for a few trips a year, but to be honest it's so useful and well made that we use it all the time.
