Review on CamelBak Octane Hydration Black Atomic by Sean Maile

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Comfortable fit, large size/capacity, excellent organization

This is a great little backpack that can hold a lot more than expected while still being very comfortable. Haven't had a chance to use it for running yet, but I've worn it down on a couple of day hikes, taken it with me a couple of times with a Macbook Pro instead of a water bladder, and used it on a couple of gigs. /events and were very impressed and happy with it. I just wore it to a big party in San Francisco so I could take water, spare clothes and outerwear, snacks and some other little things I needed for the day and dance without having to put my bag down and take care of it to keep an eye on . The multiple pockets on the front of the shoulder straps were great for keeping my phone, small purse, lip balm, and tissues handy and easily accessible without having to fumble the bag around in a crowd. I wore it all day on a full charge, starting with a whopping 2 liters of water in the tank, and was surprised that even after a full 6 hours of standing, walking and dancing with it, it was still perfectly comfortable and I had no pain in my shoulders or in the back, which is not usually the case with other backpacks in similar situations. My wife was jealous of my new backpack, especially the easy access front pockets, as she constantly had to take her backpack off when she needed a cell phone, chewing gum or something small, so I just ordered another one for her. Camelback did a great job providing plenty of organization pockets throughout the Octane 10's design. At the top of the large main compartment are two small mesh pockets which are handy for storing protein bars and other small items without having to dig through the bottom of the pocket , as well as a small pocket with zippers on the side. a pocket with a lanyard that can also hold a wallet and other small items. The side pocket is also rather unassuming and the zipper is hidden under a flap on the lid, making it less likely someone will try to open your bag in a crowd. And a stretch pocket on the outside of the main compartment offers even more space for a lightweight sweatshirt/fleece jacket, raincoat, down vest or other not-too-bulky outerwear.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Not the best
