"Not fast" compared to some of the newer high speed USB and SCSI drives. The speed decreases as more data is written to the disc, presumably because the outer tracks are used first, followed by the lower surface speed inner tracks. The slowdown is significant. I haven't measured the deceleration yet, but it could be double that. In general, it's roughly comparable to a medium-quality USB drive. I still value the convenience - I do overnight backups. Since I'm currently using three identical black discs, I mark them with a silver marker. Due to the nature of the plastic surface, the marker will need to be updated from time to time. I believe this drive is very similar to Toshiba's Toshiba Canvio Advance 3TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive Black (HDTC930XK3CA), hence the same review and rating for now. ------------ -- --Update after a few days of use: The system crashed with clicks similar to another reviewer's description. It is not clear whether an external force such as B. Sliding sideways on a tilted computer screen could have caused the crash since the crash occurred while the system was in a static state. Now I put a pair of rubber bands on the ends of the (new Canvio) blocks and minimize them from slipping.
