I have to admit I was skeptical about this product having used a DTV antenna with bunny ears and booster in the past. With reinforced rabbit ears I only managed 6 stations. The maximum distance for the bunny ear antenna has been specified as 30 miles. I live about 30.2 miles from a TV tower, so I must have had more than six channels. When researching indoor antennas, I came across this Antennas Direct ClearStream antenna. I read a lot of reviews here, many of them negative. I decided to take a chance, especially since the antenna sold for $7.99. how could i lose channel search. Even without an amp, this thing put out 87 channels, many of which were crystal clear HD channels! Of course many of them were in languages other than English but I have a large number of English speaking channels including most of the major local networks like KTLA, KNBC-LA and KCBS-LA. Local channels were displayed with perfect clarity! I went one step further and set up my home theater to use the HDHomerun TV tuner along with XBMC installed. The HDHomerun add-on for XBMC worked even better than my HDTV's channel scan. Using the HDHomerun add-on channel scan, I pulled out 95 channels, even KCOP and KTTV that were previously unavailable. I bought an RCA DTV amp and did a rescan on my HDHomerun and I have 105 channels! This time many channels with somewhat average signal strength were listed with a much higher signal rating. The signal strength graph has changed from yellow to green. Even without an amp, I find the performance of this product to be excellent given my distance from towers. In combination with the booster you can easily exceed the specified range of 25 miles by at least 10 miles. Remember that everything depends on whether you have huge buildings or mountains between your house and the station towers. I live in a large apartment complex and my apartment is within the complex so there is a barrier between me and the station towers. But this barrier could not prevent this antenna from receiving 105 channels. Thanks to the free OTA channels I get from this product, Netflix, Hulu-Plus, and the XBMC app on my HTPC, I was able to unsubscribe from the DirectTV service for fear of missing my favorite shows. The service I got from DirectTV cost me $80 a month and was only available in standard definition! What a robbery! My total monthly bill has now been reduced by $80.00 and I will never use cable or Direct to TV again! Greetings to all who have successfully cut the cord. Good product.
