Acceptable as storage. Terrible as a countertop.

To be honest, I currently have a few of these drives on my NAS as read cache, configured to use less than half of their maximum capacity to maintain both speed and durability . They do an excellent job in this role and I honestly don't expect much from them as the NAS only connects via a 1GBE connection. Plugging it into your computer to use as a Steam drive or for your photos, music, movies or whatever would be perfectly adequate (although the 500 gigabyte version would be a little small for a digital games library to save; I think it could maybe hold 2 or 3 Call of Duty but 9-12 regular games). This would also be acceptable as a boot disk, although it requires slightly more writes than memory. You can also use this to save proxy files after nightly processing. Attempting to use this as a goal for something like editing or recording a video would be a silly dream and you should wake up with shame and embarrassment for seeing these dreams. Although these are TLC drives (as far as I can tell), they don't have enough write cache for sustained writes. with them) due to their recent trend towards false and misleading marketing. I wouldn't overlook that QLC drives are TLC by charging TLC prices. I'm not saying WD is full of bad people doing bad things, but they've done bad things and refused to admit it until hard evidence was presented.
