The paddle consists of two parts - the longer part of the blade and the handle. There is a plastic clip attached to the blade section that allows you to adjust the length. Over time the adhesive will loosen and during use the clip will separate from the blade section. This results in the user holding the handle portion while the blade portion falls into the water. Since there is no foam in the shaft, it sinks. We had three paddles that did. Luckily we were able to remove part of the paddle blade and epoxy the clip to it as it should have originally been attached.
