Perfect Fermentation Lids

I started fermenting about a year ago. I started out with stone cans and would spit them out every day, sometimes twice a day. I considered using standard airlocks (ones that use water) but found they can be messy. One day I came across these covers. At first they seemed too good to be true. I've never had to pop open my cans and there hasn't been a mess with water bubbles. I decided to try them. I was surprised how easy they are to use and how well they work. Exactly as advertised. No mess, no burp, no worries. This is how it works: 1. Pack glasses2. Install the caps and hand tighten3. wait it's easy Of course, an air pump is included, which can be confusing for some people. I'll explain the pump: It is NOT necessary to use the pump when packing cans for the first time. In the early stages, the gas (CO2) produced by the bacteria displaces the oxygen from the jar fairly quickly. When you REALLY want to use the pump, it's towards the end of your fermentation (when the bacteria have slowed their growth and metabolism) and you open your jars for a taste test. If you choose to let the fermentation last longer, use an air pump to pump out the oxygen, as it won't be pushed out as quickly as it was to begin with. Only ONE pump required. Overall, these lids are ideal for fermenters of all levels. I will be buying many more of these and would definitely recommend them to anyone.
