An update since I last wrote (see original post below). I have since learned that you need a special crimping tool. The original crimping tool I have can still crimp these through connectors, but they won't cut the wires either. They cut the wires in a separate motion, either before or after crimping. So I only added one star to my original rating. It is no higher than three stars for several reasons: first, the manufacturer should more clearly understand the need for a new crimping tool; second, several connectors in the lot had deformations; And third, there's no reason I couldn't get PIN #8 to connect (see below). ---- Originali ran out of cheap RJ45 connectors, so I thought I'd give this "pass-through" style a shot. It seemed a bit pricey - $50 for $20 - but why not try it? It's a nice concept. Mistake! Getting the color order right was easy, but crimping it took a lot of practice. You have to cut the wires properly. For some reason my crimping tool couldn't get pin #8 to make the connection (as determined by my ethernet test tool). I've tried multiple connections with the same result. With these pass-through connectors, you must get the correct wire/color order before routing the wires through the connector. It's nice to be able to visually confirm wire/color order before cutting or crimping. With the old style (not through) you need to do the same with the correct wire/color order before inserting it into the clip. The only difference is that with the old method, you precisely cut the wires to the correct length before inserting them into the connector. Then just crimp and you're done. Maybe I did something wrong when attaching these plugs. In the past I've wired thousands of RJ45 plugs using the old connector types (i.e. non-through) but these pass-through plugs haven't done me any good. In fact, they are useless to me. Perhaps they can be of value to others; not me. I quickly ordered a batch of 100 pieces. old style for $9 and put those pass-through connectors on the shelf. I will give them to anyone who wants.
