K&N Intake Kit for 2009 Mini Clubman (except S model) (P/N: 69-2022TS)

I just completed a 2 hour installation of this product. Why 2.5 hours for something that should only have taken 20 minutes? So let's get started. Cons: First of all, this set is incomplete in its design. I can't blame the seller because it's a K&N product. I love K&N products. I have used their intake systems on several vehicles and have never had the problems I am dealing with today. The instructions don't even mention a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor to contend with to get this one. Work. MAF measures the air flow rate into the engine to help the computer determine how much fuel to deliver to the injectors. This kit, when installed verbatim, will remove the MAF from the system. YOU CAN NOT DO THAT! As already mentioned, all adapters are usually included in this type/series. What you see in the picture is exactly what you get minus some stickers and other hardware. I had to do some "custom work" to get MAF to stay on the system and still be able to hold everything together. This included cutting the intake manifold from the MAF to the intake manifold. Not only did this render the instructions useless, it also rendered most of the kit useless. I was able to use two brackets and some hardware to add some weight to the intake manifold and new filter and install it, but now I have to go to my local parts store and buy two new silicone 90 degree elbows. half a dozen band clamps and some new mounts. As if I didn't spend enough on the kit itself. I can't even use the heat shield due to the "custom work" I had to do to put everything together. K&N.Pros: I have always trusted K&N filters/lamps for their durability and reliability. The parts I have used have maintained this quality and I expect to be able to use them for a VERY long time. The noise from the air intake is clearer, very deep, slightly hoarse. I like the sound of my "Gentleman's Coupé". All hardware has the finish and quality I have come to expect from a performance piece. Thanks for that. In summary: this could be a great kit if it was complete and accurate. But that's not the case. will i enjoy it Aside from the paranoia that the intake system will fall apart until I buy other parts, yes. Have I noticed an increase in performance? A little. Will it improve gas mileage? I will review and update my review. All in all you should not buy this kit unless you are afraid to use replacement parts to make it work which will void any warranty you may have. Otherwise, have fun creating and writing your own installation guide!

Pros
  • ENHANCED ENGINE SOUND: Hear the power under the hood.
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine
