Boondockers Backup

I read somewhere online that RV builders have suggested that RVs with storage tanks that have black and gray vent valves and no common vent valve should add that third common valve as a good alternative. Slum dwellers know that the gray tank collects more water than the black one, and if their two tanks are fairly large (i.e. about 50 gallons each), they have backup capacity in the black tank when the gray tank fills up and it's impractical to temporarily empty the tanks. This happens after the dishes at dinner and the shower before bed are damaged and you get a tall gray tank or the bathtub doesn't drain. After making sure the black tank is low on water, close this general valve and open the gray valve and then the black valve to allow the gray water to enter your black tank. After a few minutes you should see that both tanks have equalized by clearing the gray high level indicator in the tank. Then close the black and gray valves. Pretty smart to deal with during boandocking in my opinion.
