As with all electronic product reviews I write, a star rating (5 in this case, after installation) indicates a long or reasonable product lifespan. I chose this one from a variety of products. this way for several reasons. Firstly, I liked the 10 foot length which gives 4 sided coverage for my 55 inch flat screen. Second, I liked that it includes a built-in controller in addition to the remote; It just seems safer to be able to control the system in case the controller is lost or fails. I would have preferred the black stripe, connectors and controller because my TV is mounted at a 45º angle to the corner and the back is partially open for us to see as we enter the room. the room from the side... but I can tolerate white as the contrast makes it easier to see against the black TV cabinet when installed. Strips that peel off easily and are a big problem as they stick to the adhesive so tightly that the adhesive itself (actually double sided tape) can peel off the light strip. Box cutter style razor blade d nail does not work. And keep your fingers off that exposed band. Since my TV is bolted to a wall mount, I worked on it on site... vertically, not on a table. If you like clean installs, measure each side one at a time, mark its center, and mark the center of the light bar that corresponds to the side. Anchor the strip from that midpoint and if you're really fussy extend the end, you'll start to peel and stick quite a bit because when the backing separates the strip will stretch to its full length. Decide carefully how to line up the 4 stripes; You have two choices, and both the location of the TV's USB ports and the length of the cable from the light bar to its USB Plus will help you make that choice. Due to the weight, I recommend mounting the long upper part first and then, in my case, the left part with the USB controller connected. I pinned and positioned this, then pinned the long bottom piece and finished with the short right side. MAKE SURE you unroll the right side BEFORE attaching the bottom. This tip assumes your choice of mounting direction is similar to mine... the controller segment on the left. Unlike other similar products, this tape does not advertise its tape as safe for rough surfaces. Much of the back of my TV is rough; So far, so good. Lighting wise, in my fake basement area and with a 45º installation, the system lights up more space than I would expect to fit on a wall. We experiment. A typical color set plus 6 levels of lightness/darkness to choose from provide a workspace. In terms of system shutdown, our home theater system is fully connected to the surge protector, which we use as the main power switch. We turn it off every night and it turns off the light.
