I bought 2 of these, one works great and the other doesn't even hiss or crackle.

Thorn. and i bought 2 of these, one works fine and the other does not hiss or crackle even at high volume. The headsets were exchanged and problems followed. The volume of both cannot reach that of the connected cable, which probably applies to all bt adapters. Waiting to be replaced.
