Review on Dorman 950 006 Axle Bearing Assembly by Doug Friedman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality part from Dorman (same as the Tundra OEM)

Installed this assembly on my 2008 Toyota Tundra Off-Road TRD (2WD). I caught a bad bearing early. I felt a slight tremor in the steering wheel and heard a faint rumble from the front driver's side. For me it was most noticeable at 35mph when the road sloped to the right with a slight left turn. If you have some basic mechanical skills and a set of impact sockets (with a socket wrench shank), this is a fairly easy task. For a beginner (with experience changing brakes) it took about 45 minutes. I considered buying bearings without a hub assembly (less expensive parts) but the labor of pressing the bearings in with my existing hub and my extra time would have been more than just buying this assembly. If you have experience in handling pressure bolts, this work will not be difficult for you. It has been 3 months and more than 2000 km, the Dorman assembly works perfectly. By the way, I didn't change the bearings on either side. Just because one side went bad doesn't automatically mean you should replace both sides (like the brakes).

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Almost everything is included
