Some Duraflame heaters have more metal parts and look better, some have more plastic and look worse, was metal. I didn't know that the fire/flame functions are also very different from model to model, I discovered this by comparing this new stove with my old one, which I really like. After unboxing I was pleased with the look of this one, I think it's pretty cute and doesn't look too plasticky. I found the legs in the packaging below and just attached them to the bottom of the heater. Plugged it in and turned it on, the flame didn't "dance" it just stood there. Tried a few times, doesn't work. I thought about packing it back and trying to return it, but it seemed like a lot of trouble, and I don't like trouble. So I laid him face down on a soft blanket on the couch and unscrewed the many screws on the back of the heater. Found the rotor spinning and creating a flame is dangling. It turned out that one end of the metal rod was designed to levitate freely, while the other end was to be inserted into a small hole in a small rubber cylinder designed to grip the metal rod. I did my best to insert a metal rod into the hole in the rubber cylinder, but I found it a bit iffy, so no doubt it was the reason it wasn't right there in the first place that caused it to fail. I had to open up my old Duraflame heater to replace a blown bulb and the mechanism doesn't look too good. I wouldn't be surprised if this rod comes back off the rubber cylinder after a while, but I think I'll just take it apart again if that's the case and maybe put some rubber glue or shoe slime on it if that seems necessary. That said, it's a lot of hassle to get a new Element to work, right? So after putting the unit back together and plugging it back in, the heater, fan, remote control and finally the flame all work. Unfortunately, the flame effect of this heater is not nearly as nice as my old one. There are a lot of fake magazines in the old one, and I mean MUCH more detailed and realistic than in this new one. They're more textured, more realistic in color, and some of the tree trunks stand out well, while the "tree trunks" in this one are pretty flat with no detail at all. The old one has a fake brick top behind the tree trunks, which I used to think was pretty cheesy, but now I see that it tweaks the look of the flame effect. This new heater has a plain black plastic top that doesn't enhance the flame effect that much. So if I had the chance to see both in action together, I would choose my old one every time. But now that it works I agree, it's a useful and quite nice heater and now everything works. I just wouldn't order this particular model if I had to repeat it.
