Revainrating 5 out of 5

This hood really sucks (in a good way)

This hood replaces the microwave over the stove. We bought the house with the remodeled kitchen with a microwave over the stove but the vent never vented anything, it had the worst suction. A YouTube search for "microwave ovens" had a video of a man disassembling a microwave showing the inside and how it comes out. terrible system. So, after 2 years of smoky kitchens from frying food, we finally decided to ditch the microwave and install ventilation. I looked at different models on Amazon. I wanted something with dishwasher safe stainless steel walls. The LED lighting was a plus and it looked beautiful. From what I could figure out, Fan CFM was kind of subjective depending on how you wired your vent. So I was skeptical about the CFM fan rating. Others I looked at: Windster WS-38U30SSBV-RH-01 Went with Tatsumaki due to lower altitude. I had mixed feelings about the digital display, preferring the physical buttons (one less thing to break), but the size of the lens hood won out. Mine came with halogen bulbs. I ordered a RevainBasics 50W equivalent, daylight, dimmable, 2x GU10 LED bulb. in the package to replace the bulbs supplied with the hood. The rest of our kitchen lights are 5000k, the halogen bulbs seemed to be in the 3000k range. The photos below show halogen lamps. I will update later with RevainBasic 5000k bulbs. Fan noise isn't too bad. Our old Samsung microwave fan was as loud as a jet engine, but the Tatsumaki is quieter even at full power. We used a 6" round adapter. Screw about 12" sheet metal vent tubes to the Tatsumaki adapter and then seal the connection with tape. Bend an electrical wire and thread it through the ventilation hole in the case. We measured the position of the screws and tightened the screws. We were pretty close to two of them but the wall wasn't perfectly level so the other two screws came loose. With two screws in the right position, we were able to screw in the rest. On one of them we used a 1" flat washer with a small 1/4" hole. This gave the bolt more holding power on the vent. If you misaligned the screws, this may be a possible solution. The rear screws require a long Phillips screwdriver. My 6" screwdriver didn't help much, luckily my fellow installer had a long 10" screwdriver which made the installation a lot easier. This is definitely a two person job. For convenience, we moved the plate to the side. The first night we tested the vent on something that usually smokes in the kitchen. Tatsumaki handled it effectively. We intentionally used a front burner, and with an upstairs vent, there was no soot or lingering odors in the kitchen. I would say that this fan really sucks (in a good way).
