Review on ORICO Mini 500GB Portable External SSD, Ultra-Slim High Speed Read/Write (Up to 1000MB/s) USB 3.1 Gen2 USB-C Port Aluminum Mobile Solid State Flash Drive for MacBook - IV300 by Ivan Carson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good but runs hotter and slower than advertised

This SSD is getting really hot. I tested it with H2testw and it has the rated capacity. My old laptop might limit transfer speeds, but another 2T USB SSD, also rated at 1Gb/s, runs H2testw at 580MB/s on both write and read/test, this one runs natively only at 280 MB/ss and writing slows down to 110 MB/s during padding and warming up (read/verify stays steady at 280 MB/s). That's acceptable to me, but not very good. If the heat doesn't cause premature failure, this was a good buy.

Pros
  • Extremely high speed: SSD read and write speeds can (theoretically) reach up to 1000MB/s, allowing you to quickly back up lots of photos and videos etc and free up space on your SSD computer and help you start your computer system quickly, load pages and transfer data.
Cons
  • Operating Speed
