Odd fit but perfect after switching to a different insole. Very nice shoe with Sole insole.

I'm a woman with very wide feet and I usually wear women's 10s, but I constantly have trouble finding shoes that are wide enough for my foot. I ordered the men's version of this shoe because I liked the green color better than the women's version. I was an 8 1/2 at first and was shocked that the width seemed reasonable but felt the shoe was too short. I almost kept them, but then went back to a size 9. The length 9 is perfect. Factory-soled heels in both sizes felt oddly high and odd, but not particularly uncomfortable. Both shoes also had a spot under the ball of the foot that felt like a ridge running through the sole of the foot. My husband tried them on and it felt like a chasm under his toes. In any case, this shoe is a bit odd in the area where the toes meet the ball of the foot, which is a bit uncomfortable. I took some Sole insoles that I had in another pair of shoes and put them in this one and it completely solved the problem for me (but provided MUCH more arch support than a pair of Altras would normally provide). I've tried a few other insoles and I still feel weird discomfort in the sole of my foot to varying degrees. The Sole insole is much stiffer than most. The problem that the heel felt too high and the shoe had too much volume with the factory insole was also completely solved with this insole. , but definitely not as wide as ladies Lone Peak 4 size 10. With the Sole insole they are quite comfortable but with the factory insole they feel very strange on the foot. If you want to fit special insoles into these shoes, there is plenty of room for that. It seems to be the causative wear and tear of city shoes. My Lone Peak 4s have a decidedly soft feel that they don't have at all. It's more of a minimalist shoe with a slightly stiff sole and not suitable for running or hiking.

Pros
  • Great quality and great fit!
Cons
  • Really too small and not enough pillows. My legs hurt a lot after a few days.
