"Custom Programming " means the buttons ONLY WORK for the new device. No back-N-forward shifting

Doesn't "program" as you might expect. If you set up the buttons to work with your TV, the buttons will no longer control Roku. So you want arrows to work on your TV? Or for your stone. Both is not possible.
