Review on UniFi FlexHD UAP-FlexHD-US 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi Access Point by Ubiquiti Networks by Stacy Jackson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It has its own problems - Solved

This product would have been 5 stars until I found a bug in its behavior and tech support was silent on this issue. I am using a device with 4 SSIDs each using 2g and 5g radios. One of the SSIDs is scheduled (WLAN for kids devices). When the schedule turns the SSID back on, the 2G radio will disconnect all connected clients for a while (like the radio is rebooting). This does not happen with connected 5G clients. This doesn't seem like such a big deal until you find out that most of your home automation runs over 2G wireless. I reported this to Ubiquiti and have received 2 status requests in the last 3 days. I didn't even get a confirmation that they received the email. The review will be reviewed and updated as Ubiquiti resolves this issue. me. The problem is not solved. No updates on that front. The support rep goes back and forth with a "try this" and "test this" mindset, which is perfectly normal to be thorough, but so far they've refused to answer my question as to whether they solved the problem reproduced or otherwise accurately verified. as I described it to you. Of course, I have to take the lack of an answer as a no. In the meantime I think they've run out of things to check and confirm and now they're going to really investigate the issue. either have it or do it now. The bigger issue I see is that the firmware used in the product is the same firmware used in many if not all UAP products, and there are many. This little bug I found, while it seems simple, is probably a nightmare for them to fix across their entire product line. Pure speculation on all of this. Given the lack of a technical answer to my questions and the lack of a solution or walkthrough, the rating remains at 1-star quality. Stay away if your requirements involve scheduled SSID operations! Another update will come if Ubiquiti does something useful in this case. February 22, 2020 (11:30 p.m.) Tues. The weird thing is that they said "something is wrong" and didn't confirm the bug in the firmware or the product. They are supposedly conducting an internal audit. I keep waiting for progress. When I know more I will update the post again. April 25th, 2020 I was supposed to write this review a few weeks before the start of the quarantine, but it doesn't matter because nothing has changed to this day. Tech support, after admitting the issue, informed me that there was no timeline for fixing the issue. They didn't even admit that the subject was under scrutiny. Great job, UBNT.12/11/2020I noticed earlier this week that a firmware update is available. For those who don't know, Unifi Controller shows this detail, but you have to look closely. However. I installed the firmware update (v5.43.19.12493) and voila, the problem I reported is now fixed, or so it seems. Time will tell for sure, and I'll update this post again if I find out that the problem still persists in one form or another, or if it's been replaced by another problem. I upgraded the threats to 4 stars for this article because the UBNT support turned out to be very successful, almost couldn't get through on the phone and I was not notified of the firmware change and said that the problem I encountered pressed so hard was actually solved. But at least they have arrived. You'll need to be more familiar with networking concepts to set up this device than the average home user would otherwise, but you can use it that way as well. To be honest, this really is the best hotspot I've ever used, and I reckon it is. The entire line of Unifi access points is equally good. As I noted in the original post, otherwise this device would have received a 5 star rating. I chose this model as I don't have in-ceiling wiring or a POE switch to control this type of installation (close to home!) and the unit has a fairly sleek look with no flashy antennas or spaceship look. . This device has many features that I still don't use, so I can't say if there are any hidden gems of flaws, but for my use, this thing is about as perfect as I could ask for. I am using 4 SSIDs, each allowing a 2g or 5g radio channel when the client connects, each SSID in a separate VLAN. I have a FlexHD connected to an EdgeRouter 4 (yes I came out of the Unifi bubble for a router, better throughput) where each of my 4 VLANs are separate so I no longer worry about kids play devices getting in the way of what's important Me and I haven't used QOS as it slows things down a bit. With this latest firmware I can enable/disable a specific SSID on a schedule and not affect anything else. Translation: No more worrying about the kids getting on their devices too late (or too early) and keeping my home IoT network online. One device is enough to cover a two-story house with an area of 3000 m². Feet with a footprint of 40 x 45 feet. The device is located in the upper arm, a little closer to the front of the house. The 5G signal gets a little weaker in the farthest room, but it works. 2G is stable anywhere, including up to 20 feet from the outside walls of the home (front and back).
