We had no intention of using the backpack as our baby's main sleeping space, but an unfortunate delay in the planned addition left no room for a full size bed when he outgrew his bassinet. I was a little hesitant to buy an extra mattress due to all the terrible warnings, but I'm so glad I did. It was perfect for his Cosco playground and a lot more comfortable. It changed his sleeping habits almost immediately. It's firm enough to be sure, but a lot nicer than the mattress that comes with it. I recommend some sort of mattress pad to put under the sheets since the outer layer is basically the same material as the vinyl tablecloth. Ideal for waterproofing but creates a somewhat crumpled sleeping surface. However, once we started using the mattress pad, the noise was gone. Highly recommend if you are looking for a more comfortable travel cot or playground mattress!
