Review on πŸ“š Ranger RGRMDJ.61106 DWakley Media Journal 6x6 White, No Modifications by Sasha Hsiao

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Binding broke on first opening. Paper crumbles when ink is used.

Before I started working in this very cute magazine, the pages were glued together, and when I opened it, the entire binding was torn and opened. This company tends to sell junk products (e.g. a bunch of pink and black bags with broken plastic zippers that looked like Mod Podge dried paper). I stay away from their distress inks because they are water soluble so they bleed with every wet application and that goes for their stamping inks including seals. But they have some really cool materials that seem to stand the test of time and use, so I haven't given them up just yet. Before editing this review, I said that I like this paper. I haven't used it yet. Now that I have it I can say it falls apart when wet. I was using brand new Posca markers and couldn't tell if the roughness of the paper was tearing the tips or crumbling the paper. It was paper. (See images of rainbow fish scales above). It's difficult to sketch something with my pencils, I have gouache and watercolor but I've hardly done them before. It's not like I rubbed Posca grips on it. What I really had to do was turn it a certain direction and just make a line with the pen very gently and then I would (as I now know) clean the ball of the paper, being careful not to to tear the page. On the page that was torn when I first opened it, I put a strip of masking tape on it so if one of the handles leaks it won't get caught in the binding. When I took it off very carefully knowing there was a bad spot at the top. Of course he took a huge piece with him. (Also in pictures). So I don't know why this magazine has such high ratings. I know I got the same paper as everyone else. It was really expensive for a terrible newspaper in a tiny magazine. (Although I like the size). As for the torn binding and glued pages, I just don't know how you use them. Especially wet on wet. This will destroy this book.
