Poor thermal performance makes the P1 unsuitable for fanless systems

I bought this for my Intel NUC -4&keywords=nuc8i7hvk). The drive appeared to work well, delivering file transfer speeds of around 1.4GB/s in the real world (moving games using Steam). However, after less than 24 hours of use, the drive appears to have failed. It showed up in File Explorer, but after a reboot it didn't show up in File Explorer, Disk Manager, or the BIOS. However, after reinstalling it on the motherboard, the drive started working properly again. This has happened a few times, especially after long gaming sessions. Upon examining the drive, I found that it was very hot to the touch and decided that the thermal pad provided by Intel was not doing its job properly, so I removed it. This helped increase the HDD's MTBF, but did not solve the problem. I have another NVMe drive used alongside P1 (NUC8i7HVK has two NVMe slots), Samsung EVO 970, which was noticeably colder than P1. I tried switching the M.2 slots, thinking that one particular slot might be the problem, but the Samsung drive was noticeably colder in the other slot as well. So the conclusion is that P1 has poor thermal performance compared to Samsung EVO drives. In fact, it has such poor thermal performance that I couldn't format the drive properly before putting it back into Revain, even though the quick format went great. cheaper than M.2 drives without NVMe. This seems to be the most attractive feature of this product. I would even go as far as to say that it is also durable, performs excellently and retains data after multiple failures in severe heat. However, if you have a fanless system, NUC, or even a Mini-ITX system with a small chassis and limited fans, I would not recommend this product and instead recommend you consider the Samsung EVO drive as it seems worthy a bonus.
