I was surprised by the heavy metal construction, just like a quality letter punch. The paper guide is made of the same hard but slightly pliable plastic as the paper hole. I can see how it can bend or warp if you're not careful to feed it in evenly and straight, but if you're punching through A5 paper you still won't pull it out all the way. I suggest keeping it with the lead pressed down, so it doesn't get stuck and possibly twitch at an angle. There are page size markings on the slider as you pull it out, and the slider conveniently clicks into place for each marking, so you don't have to fiddle with positioning. It is written that it can punch up to 6 sheets. I had a hard time putting a folded sheet of regular carbon paper in at first, but after a few presses on the device, the springs released nicely. I tested it with card stock and six sheets of copier paper and it works great with no protruding parts or torn edges. The pins are mounted on strong metal plates, three pins per plate, and the plates easily slide sideways and lock into place. Beautiful design. It also makes guessing the location easier.
