I love it when my kids learn about the USA and we have family in different parts of the country so we traveled a bit to visit. I thought it would be nice if my preschooler could use this to visualize where we were. My 3.5 year old daughter can do this puzzle quite well on her own, but we collect a lot of puzzles around our house. We've collected it 6-8 times already and that's what caught my eye.1. It's a bit tricky because the pieces are not connected like a normal puzzle because they are shaped in different states. Basically, it's just flat sides lying next to each other. Because of this, parts can move due to baby's movement, and it can make it difficult to align smoothly if your baby is impatient. The pieces are made out of cardboard like most jigsaw puzzles. They're thick enough to be fairly durable, but since some of the pieces are very long or large, I foresee some of them may bend, especially with young children. I know my daughter held a piece and pushed it onto the sofa, leaned against the sofa and bent one. Still usable, but not perfect now.3. The size of the details and drawings are suitable for work at any age. Territories with smaller states grouped together are one piece of the puzzle, so you're not trying to find a tiny piece just anywhere. 4. The colors and images are holding up well so far, but I've noticed a piece on the red shield that appears to have some color traits. See my picture.5. I love that they have a picture of something meaningful associated with this condition for most conditions - it's a topic of conversation with my child about different things. This picture also gives my pre-read child the ability to recognize states without looking at the name. Note, however, that not all states have an image. Where the staff is too small, they omitted the picture. It's understandable from space, but it's a little disappointing for me because I'm losing that learning moment for some states. In general, nothing terrible.6. Being from Michigan, I'm disappointed with how IM looks. That's not a glove! The other states mostly look pretty accurate in their forms. Check out some of my photos to get a good overview. All in all, this is another quality product from Melissa and Doug, but is it perfect? no I'm glad I bought this and the kids seem to love it which is really important.
