The Kohler toilet has detected a leak between the upper tank and the bowl. The flush valve has 3 seals. One gasket (mine was yellow) is used inside the flush valve and prevents water from the tank getting into the toilet (replace this gasket if the toilet runs all the time), the second gasket is under the flush valve (mine is red) . ) and seals the inside of the flush valve box. If this seal fails, water will seep between the upper tank and the bowl. The third gasket (mine is gray) is placed under the tank and positioned over the bowl opening. For me it was a real seal that had failed. I ended up removing the entire flush valve - a lot more work and expense than just replacing the gray gasket. the gray seal can be easily replaced and is available without a flush valve.
