This is a good solution for people who need to store personal information off the computer in public places and are looking for an easy way to prevent unauthorized access to that information. more expensive options, like USB keyboard drives that advertise "military-grade" encryption, and physical cases that destroy the device if someone tries to open it. Since these types of devices use a lithium battery, I was wondering what would happen to your data if the battery eventually died. Anyway, I don't need anything super powerful, so I went with this Kingston USB stick. in the password check when you plug it into your computer's USB port - if you use it for the first time, set your password. Simple and works like a charm. Every time you subsequently connect this USB drive to your computer, the program will launch and ask for a password. If someone tries multiple times without the correct password to access it, the device will reformat after the 10th failed attempt. You can also easily change your password at any time. All of that is enough for my needs. This stick also has an activity indicator and the metal body gives it a decent weight so you probably won't lose it in your bag. I haven't checked the optional cloud storage and I'm using it on a PC (of course it can be tricky on a Mac). The only reason I deducted a star is that, like most USB drives, you get an adjusted amount of usable space from the advertised capacity (I said "16GB" but can somehow only do about 14GB It doesn't matter.) Also, the metal case gets quite hot during operation, so the durability remains to be seen. I will update my review if there are any issues. :) Update: I've been using this drive for a little less than a year and it's working without any problems, but there are a few things that bug it: - The little metal cover protects the connector well if you remove it though. and fasten at the back, it will pop out too easily and sooner or later may fall off and get lost. - What's even more concerning is that this disc heats up pretty quickly! I don't know if it's the metal case, but this drive gets way warmer than any other USB drive I have. As I said, it's worked fine for a little under a year, but heat and electronics are a bad combination. :)
