Review on LS2 Challenger Carbon Helmet Large by Zachary Cha

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Standard > Carbon Fiber

I have been riding motorcycles for about 10 years and have used LS2s helmets from the start. My first helmet was LS2 Esprit, second LS2 Corsa, third LS2 Phoenix. When I received my Challenger Carbon GT (Seller: Accessories International) I was expecting nothing less than the fantastic quality I have experienced with these helmets. And frankly, the Challenger Carbon GT excels in that regard. It feels premium, is light enough and looks great. My main issue with this, however, is the odd bulge on the inside left side of the helmet. There's an odd bump where my left ear is. So if I wear a helmet for more than 5 minutes, my left ear becomes extremely sensitive. I know I'm the right size because like I said, this isn't my first LS2. That meant I just couldn't wear the Challenger Carbon GT. As I placed it on my head and accepted the pain, I was greeted with double D-rings. LS2, why does your highest helmet have double Ds when your regular helmets have a quick reset? Let's just use quick releases everywhere. That makes life a lot easier. With my ear as soft as a mofo, I decided to take the helmet off and along with the helmet, my cheek pads got ripped off every time. But to be honest it was more of a defect for the LS2 than anything else. I decided to return the helmet and accidentally ordered a regular Challenger GT (seller: Harley Davidson Wisconsin) and it was the luckiest thing I've ever had. I saved $100, got a helmet my left ear doesn't hate, a quick release buckle and cheek pads that stay in place. Sure, it doesn't look as good as the carbon, but everything else makes the trade-offs more worthwhile. If you are looking for a new helmet with a long oval head. I can happily recommend the Challenger GT. I just strongly recommend staying away from the carbon fiber version. Update August 2020 I just installed a Sena 50S in this thing. And I have to say. Speaker placement is an absolute atrocity. The space reserved for installing the speakers is your cheeks, not your ears. I deduct a star.
