Troubleshooting: Microwave Replacement Parts

Although this is an exact replacement and will temporarily fix the problem, the problem is still there. From what I can tell, the metal in the switch seems to get hot when the food is cooked for an extended period of time. I think the metal expands in the switch and melts the position in the plastic so the button doesn't pop back out when the door is opened. So the plate rotates when the door is open. I have found that I can open the switch and cut the plastic behind the metal contact in the switch with a small screwdriver and it works great. Although I thought I'd order them to see if they were redesigned to address this issue. They have not. The simple fix is to install this new switch and it will work for a while before the problem comes back. If you're trying to fix an existing one, slowly open the top and the guts will stay in place. Press the switch's curved metal spring and the button will pop out. You can see the shredded plastic behind the flat spring. Use a small screwdriver to cut the plastic behind the metal spring to make it smooth. Check the knob and put it back together. I did it 3 times with the original. I think I've finally come back far enough that this doesn't happen again. Hope that helps.
