These shoes are indeed perfect for the summer. They are lightweight but durable. My daughter is 1.5 years old and is still learning to walk and climb, which gives her a lot of support without having to wear running shoes in the hot summer. She wears clothes for 18-24 months and is not a chubby baby - she is 5.5ft tall and I wore the size of these shoes for 12-18 months. They fit perfectly, with enough room to grow that she will probably use them all summer long. I may change my rating if they don't stand up to use but for now we are very happy.
