Surge arresters protect equipment from power surges. But they do nothing to lower the voltage if the voltage gets too low. A good voltage drop can destroy your electronics faster than a power surge, and you have electronics in refrigerators, coffee makers, dishwashers, and other household appliances. In addition to providing surge protection, this adapter will cut power to the device when power is applied. drops off too much but when it comes back it waits a few minutes to hold voltage before turning on again. It's a bit bulky, but I haven't had a single failure yet.
