This would be a great vise for the money if the jaws were parallel. In my case they are not. I've used it quite a bit for rough work where it didn't matter and now it's probably out of warranty. So I removed the jaw liners and sanded down the cast iron underneath. How painful! It was anything but parallel, and not just a little bit. I forgot my original measurements but it was quite a thick pen. I line it up for a while every time I go to the store and it's almost done. I probably wouldn't post this (all my free time is taken up by the filing), but I happened to be at the Harbor Freight Store the other day and checked out their vise. All of their jaws closed perfectly parallel. How annoying. And the overall feel of their comparable grips seemed more solid. And the levers preventing it from turning seemed better chiselled. I don't know if their cast iron is as durable as this one, but the general finish and finish was much better at Harbor Freight. Very unexpected.
