I needed something that could boost the sound on my Macbook Pro Retina while remaining mobile. I bought and tested 4 different portable audio speakers, 2 were wired and 2 were bluetooth.* iHome iHM79BC Mini Rechargeable Speakers* Logitech Z305 Laptop USB Speakers* Monster ClarityHD Precision Micro Portable Bluetooth Speaker* Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth SpeakerAfter Purchase listed 4 items, I had to play them with the different styles of music I listen to: Rap/Hip Hop, R&B, Classical, Jazz and Country. Here is my brief review based on my experience with each item: 1: iHome iHM79BC Rechargeable Mini Speakers PRODUCT: Very nice design but they are not wireless, there is actually a long USB cable with an auxiliary cable attached. Each speaker connects to mini USB via this long cable, the other end connects to PC/MAC via USB and Auxiliary. I found it tangled more than I wanted. It comes with a holdall which is nice too. The speakers can also be folded up and attached to each other for on the go. SOUND: Actually, the sound from these little speakers was pretty amazing. Very loud and clear for how small they were. I was impressed. At higher volumes, they got overwhelmed by the bass and started rattling on my desk and distorting very noticeably. TOTAL VOLUME: 3/52. Logitech Z305 USB Speaker for Laptop PRODUCT: Very nice design, perfect size. Fits seamlessly on the back of my Macbook Pro Retina screen and is no longer than a 15" screen which is nice. Supplied with travel bag. A USB cable connects to the PC/MAC for audio and power. also a 3.5mm aux jack to connect an MP3 player, phone, iPod, etc. for listening to music. Note that it still requires power, so it needs to be connected via USB. I like that I can plug it onto the back of my screen or just onto the side of my Macbook SOUND: The sound just blew me away at how small this thing is. Overall it had the fullest sound, the clearest sound with the best highs, mids and lows. Even at max volume it's very good with very little distortion. The sound is beautiful 360 degree sound that fills a small room with ease. and still very wearable. TOTAL VOLUME: 4/53.Monster ClarityHD Precision MicroPRO Portable Bluetooth Speaker. CHANNEL: Very small and beautifully designed. I really can't believe how small this thing is. Just one USB cable to charge your device when needed. Overall I think this is the most beautiful 4 piece design. This device connects easily to my Macbook Pro Retina via Bluetooth. mediocre compared to the first two points considered. The bass is so loud that it almost distorts the entire sound. It's not really "Clear" or "HD" as the name might suggest. It's also very muffled and emits a lot of hiss and hiss, even if I don't have any other Bluetooth devices connected to my Macbook. I was very disappointed with the sound of this device. GENERAL INFORMATION: 1/54. Creative D100 Bluetooth Wireless Speaker PRODUCT: Nicely designed, not too big but big enough overall. Runs on four AA batteries or the included power cord. This device connects easily to my Macbook Pro Retina via Bluetooth. SOUND: The sound produced by the device is pleasant if it does not crackle, make noise or cause static electricity. Even if it's the only Bluetooth item connected to my Macbook, there's still a lot of noise, pops, hisses, and the like. I was very disappointed with the sound of this unit, but overall it sounds better than the Monster ClarityHD speaker. GENERAL INFORMATION: 2/5
