Review on Marathon 9X3 50 4 Wheel Centered Bushings by Matt Dyen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not a direct replacement for 9x3.50-4 " air wheels but fits reasonably well

The hub is narrower so you will probably need to use 3/4" washers on both sides of the wheel to cover it exposed axis areas . Of course, if you don't use fender washers they will still fit, but you will get more dirt and grit in the grease in the bushings as the wheel slides back and forth on the axle. In other words, you must use wing washers to avoid premature axle and bushing wear. due to dirt and grit contamination in normal use. Also note that these wheels need A LOT of lubrication to fill them up properly. They do not have roller bearings that their pneumatic counterparts usually contain, so the void created by the lack of rollers must be replaced with lubrication. Have plenty of lube before installing! Since these wheels are larger in diameter than the air wheels they replace (about 3/4 inch larger?), you need to take that into account. In my case they are used as the front wheels on a zero turning radius lawnmower. Increasing the reel height was a welcome change in my case, as I've always wanted to elevate the deck higher than is possible with standard reels. I previously replaced the rear drive wheels with tires of the same size, so the larger diameter of these flat freewheels allows my cutter deck to run parallel to the ground again. Because these wheels use bushings instead of roller bearings, you'll need to grease them more frequently, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to the inconvenience of air tires that remain unreliably inflated (which is VERY often the case with air tires of this size). ). These wheels are one of the best purchases I have made on a mower to make it more reliable and operational.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Minor issues
