If you're going to put it where wind currents will weigh on your antenna you'll need a 4 foot antenna or smaller and preferably a small diameter antenna like the Firestik Firefly. The black plastic outer shell is just a shell. It won't handle the stress of driving in strong headwinds on the interstate with a thick 5-foot fiber optic antenna. I also got the distinct impression that this mount is weaker on the side of the car than on the rear. In other words, there is less tension in lateral directions than in the forward direction. I highly recommend investing in an antenna spring if you are using a 3 or 4 foot stick. Here's the one I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00042LC9M/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_17. Another reviewer stated that he potted his mount with fiberglass epoxy. I've also gone this route, increased my spend by about $7, and gained a lot more valuable security. I will be using this mount on my Jeep Wrangler with a 5" fiber optic antenna. I'll also be cruising interstate speeds in a 3-footer through our infamous Windy Mountains. When I think of a typical 40mph headwind gust added to a 75mph driving speed, I don't want the mount to fail and the antenna to fly off and hit other motorists. can be purchased at any lumber or hardware store. I chose a 5 minute epoxy made specifically for bonding plastics by Home Depot and mixed it thoroughly with a toothpick inside the body of the mount. Make sure to mix **thoroughly** or you will be disappointed with the results and end up with a very weak compound. I suggest doing one camera at a time so you don't rush. You can tell if an epoxy is well mixed because it releases a lot of heat as it cures. The coaxial cable appears to be of good quality. I ended up using a quick disconnect (http://www.amazon.com/FireStik-K-1A-Push-n-Twist-quick-disconnect/dp/B000UTQUAK/) with a spring retainer. Using a 3" FireStik FL3 joystick I was able to get an SWR of 1.2 on CB channel 20 and 1.3 on channels 1 and 40. As mentioned above I use a 5 foot Firestik Offroad (http://www .amazon.de). .com/gp/product/B000X3EP7I/) and achieved an SWR of 1.1 on all channels. The installation location on the Wrangler TJ was above and slightly to the right of the center of the passenger rear light.
