These lamps react quickly to movement. The light goes out after a sufficiently short time if no movement is felt. The ability to choose bright or dim light is key to making these superb lights. The dimmer setting of these lights is perfect for night lighting. I had another brand but the brightness so welcome when using it as closet lighting is not suitable in the middle of the night when you just want to find the bathroom. I haven't had them long enough to comment on energy efficiency. Update: Almost three months and the same batteries. They appear to be energy efficient.
