My EOS-M came with a firmware update already installed so I can't speak to issues with focus etc. and shoot with a camera. After seeing my dad's Nikon tip I was looking for one that had all the features I needed. Along the way, I also thought about upgrading my DSLR (Canon EOS Rebel T2i) for more advanced features. At some point I noticed the EOS-M. I've read reviews and it seems like there was a focus issue on early models and it seems to have come to light because Canon lowered the price. Eventually they updated the firmware and fixed the focus issue, but it looks like the damage has been done. Initial searches on Google indicated a focus issue, although it has been fixed. I bought it mainly for recording videos and for quick "snapshots", which does both well. I'm using a Sennheiser MKE 400 Gun microphone mounted on a sonic shoe with very good results. It can find faces and track them throughout the scene, and it also holds focus quite well. Low light photography is very good, but as with any camera, the more light, the better the picture. If you're used to Canon DSLRs, you'll have no problem navigating the menus and buttons. The lens adapter, which allows you to use DSLR lenses, is good but very expensive compared to the (now low) price of the camera. It does not allow remote control. It's a real shame because pairing it with an app like DSLR Controller (on the Google Play Store) would be almost perfect. A hacker community has formed around this camera, releasing custom firmware to make it more functional for video and film recording. I really hope Canon will continue to release this line. Other manufacturers have similar cameras, but investing in Canon optics is the only way to go.
