I had to remove the chains and widen them a bit to fit my boots (I wear women's size 11) but other than that they are amazing! Made of metal so you get a "click" and a good weight. To expand them I just pulled on the ends, I'm not very strong but I was able to do it without much effort. I didn't use vinyl tapes at all, just made my own tapes from strips of woven leather from a craft store, which worked great. This is a great addition to any costume, highly recommend! And you can't beat this price, most of the others I've found that are reasonably priced have been plastic and not as good.
