Review on Hanna Instruments Marine Calcium Checker by Sharon Jenson

I have had reef aquariums for 31 years and these Hanna test kits are the best I have ever used. I switched to Hanna from the professional Red Sea models I've had and I will never go back unless Hanna has the kit for what I need. I've used Red Sea, Salifert, API and ELOS and while I have to admire the efficiency of using API kits, the accuracy isn't good enough for serious tanks, but certainly good enough for FOWLR tanks. The other kits in their line require a few more steps, as do all the calcium test kits I've ever used. At least they do NOT have a little measuring cup to measure out a gram of LOL powder. The results with this unit have been excellent, I have used my own RO/DI water and got results very close to what was stated with a fresh batch of Instant Ocean mix. I love digital reading and how these kits work, I can't use the color wheels again if Hanna doesn't have a kit for this test. There are a few tricks with Hanna kits to get accurate results. I will make a youtube video of this for people to see, of course when you dip them in the tank to fill the vials, after you get the right level and cap the bottle, be careful the outside and rinsing hands with fresh water and then drying them with a paper towel and polishing them with a reading glasses cleaning cloth. If you do this and use them properly, you'll get consistently accurate results, and the really nice thing is that you no longer have to look at color charts and the test is a lot easier to do than the old-school stuff. I can run 4 different tests in less than 10 minutes and get good, repeatable results. Update: 02/15/2020 My tester finally died. Apparently the button no longer works. It just stays on C1 and says to press the key. Due to the way these things are sealed I don't see a way to fix this without destroying the case. I guess it's not that bad as I've served 4 YEARS. I'm ordering a new one today.
