Was easy to install once I pulled the old fan out of the computer (don't believe the HP video that you only need two small wooden sticks to gently remove it - took me about an hour like the old one Connector broke down and many bad words were said!). The new fan is connected directly. It always works when the computer is on and open. I will definitely turn off my laptop more often. Still cheaper than a new computer. UPDATE - when I first installed it, it was a bit noisy. After a few weeks the noise became so loud that my family could hear it in the next room (with the TV on!). Too loud to study. I contacted the seller's support, they said "this is normal, the fan needs time to settle down". Just confirm it's defective and replace or refund. The computer heats up even though the fan is running. I'm going back to Revain.
