The mats are very heavy and textured on both sides so they don't slip. This is a must for actually being able to use something like this, as especially dogs can just flop something lightweight right off the couch. I have a small dog and I showed her the pads with her paws (made her feel them) and she has not tried to jump on them. I heard her one night put her front paws up on the couch these were on, but she plopped back down after a few moments, effectively deterred.I do think these feel sharp, but also my hands are soft and even my little dogs paws are thicker than my worst calluses. I don't think this would injure her but to be safe I showed her ahead of time. I feel that if they were duller, it could actually be quite comfortable for a pet to lay on, or even me haha. Compared to the platicwrap-thick alternatives, this is a great option since it actually stays put. They're really large too, so I'd recommend measuring your space first.
