Review on πŸ“… Wood Trick Wooden Mechanical Calendar - Enhanced SEO by Mario Beckwith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great kit! - Puzzle

I really enjoyed collecting this perpetual calendar. An incredible amount of detail in all parts. All in all it took me about three hours. The instructions were clear apart from a small curled end with a Q that looks like it broke off some time before delivery (I do NOT blame the shipping. The item was deep in a stack of plywood). Everything looks great. If you don't look for it you won't see it, so I see no reason to give this review a second star. The only reason I downgraded it to four stars instead of five is because the example in the instructions for use is wrong. So, for those of you wanting to understand how to use it properly and/or wondering why January and February are listed twice, this is for you. To use the calendar properly, take the last two digits of the year (in this case 19, see image) and turn the outer ring so that those two digits are above the current month. When the outer ring turns, the middle wheel, which shows the days of the week, also turns. Moving the two-digit year also changes the positions of the days of the week. When the calendar changes to the next month, turn the outer ring to the appropriate month. Why are January and February listed twice and one sentence underlined? leap years. 2020, 2024, 2028, etc. are all leap years, so use the underlined January and February lists for the first two months. After these two months, continue with the remaining months as indicated in the list. No leap year? No problem! Just use the January and February lists which are NOT underlined as usual. A few assembly tips: 1. When removing parts, push them from the BACK. Hold the piece in front of you (if the numbers in the bottom corner are facing backwards, turn the plywood) and gently push from behind to bring the piece closer to you. So if the wood doesn't tear cleanly, the plywood will separate from the back and not the front. Lightly check the fit of the parts to see if wax is required. The kit includes some wax to rub onto the woodwork to aid in assembly. If you feel you need to put a little pressure on the item, smack the corners of the lip with wax. Inlays don't need a lot of wax, so don't use it. Otherwise have fun! You end up with an amazing looking Mayan calendar that will definitely last into the 2040s.
