After years of stovetop brewing, this is definitely a useful and handy addition to the homebrew line. It took a bit of reading and playing to learn how to use it, but it turned out to be really useful and fun on my first try. Steel sieve, stable lifting handle, glass lid, operating instructions and recipe book with several common beer recipes. All hardware is made from durable stainless steel and feels VERY solid. The kettle itself is also highly polished which is nice to look at :) The weld kettle is large enough to boil up to 9 gallons of water with a 1600W hidden heating element. It also has an electronic control panel where you can set and control the cooking time, temperature, rest times, etc. Inside the kettle you place a drum with a stainless steel screen that allows you to get rid of nasty bags of grain. It also gives tons of grain the ability to float and mix with hot water during mash cycles. When the mash is ready, use the heavy-duty lifting handle to place the inner drum on the built-in drain stand, allowing all of the wort to drip back into the kettle! Last but not least, and most convenient, is the 1/2 inch drain with heavy duty valve. This allows the kettle to be emptied directly into the cooling bucket or into the fermenter. This is required when working with more than 5 gallons. Before starting my first batch (5 gallons of American Honey Wheat), I spent time reading the manual and learning about the machine. You will want to do the same because it can be a bit overwhelming at first. However, the manual is very helpful and kept the process from getting confused. Using the brew kettle to brew a batch of beer showed me how useful it is. no need. For example, the control panel is set to the default values of time, temperature and power, which I immediately changed. Second and most important is the number of cycles built into the unit which are designed to automatically cycle through the following steps: heating, mash cycles 1-5, filter cycle and cook cycle. Forest 1-3. Each of these cycles defaults to unique target temperatures, rest times, and heating power. Since I was only using one mash cycle, I went through each cycle with the pad buttons and set the time to "0" on the cycles I didn't want to use. It is difficult to find a complaint when using such a tool. It worked exactly as advertised and made the job a little easier and a little more fun. I wouldn't say it's essential for home brewing, but for the average home brewer looking to make their hobby more enjoyable and convenient, you can't go wrong with it. The only complaint I have concerns the somewhat confusing settings in the control panel. While not difficult, they were a little confusing at first and had to read the manual a few times to figure it out. Ultimately, I really like this kettle. It makes you want more brows (that's the whole point) and at the same time it looks cool. And since it doesn't let you go into the kitchen, your wife will love it too!
