Review on 🍡 Cuisinart Valor Black Porcelain Enamel Steel Tea Kettle by Jeff Johnson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Light weight, decent capacity and good looks

UPDATE: After around 13 months of use the kettle sat with water on trips for several weeks and the bottom seam was rusted as another reviewer learned. This is not possible with a product made entirely of stainless steel. Apparently they have a strip of steel in the seam, or they don't use stainless steel with a stainless steel coating, but the bare edge rusts. Seems to be a design flaw. Now the teapot flows from this seam. I will be contacting Cuisinart to see if they will replace it but unless they have changed the design I no longer recommend this product. Rating to 2 stars. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Many kettles appear to be built with a large block of aluminum or steel at the base. It seems pretty pointless in a kettle where even heat doesn't matter. This teapot has a thin-walled base. I doubt it will affect its durability and make it light. It has a good capacity without taking up much space. I've seen other designs that stick out at the bottom making the kettle look pretty big. It has a fairly large opening, which should make loading and cleaning easier. The mechanics, although mostly plastic, appear to be of decent quality. Nothing is too fragile to break quickly. The mechanism of the whistle consists of several parts of a metal press connected together (with a spring in between) and has fallen apart several times. It's easy enough to snap the pieces back together and seems to last for weeks but looks like a design flaw that needs fixing. (I'll have to fix this by making a crease in one part to increase friction, or maybe use high-temp glue.) The manufacturer recommends setting the burner on medium rather than high, which means it takes a little time in will claim. Water takes longer to boil. (Approximately 10 minutes.) The whistle sounds loud enough. When activated, it turns on in a burst instead of slowly ramping up.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
